On April 23, 2017, a fire ravaged Mi Jacalito, a popular Mexican restaurant at 1318 Douglas Avenue. The owners have been busy expanding and updating the restaurant ever since. The small restaurant now occupies the entire building with a bar and seating for over 90 customers. Everything has been remodeled and custom-made, and hand-painted, furniture was brought in from Jalisco, Mexico.
What hasn’t changed is the fresh and delicious food. The restaurant is famous for its crunchy shell tacos and homemade chicken noodle soup served with every meal. On the weekends, foodies flock to Mi Jacalito for menudo, a spicy Mexican soup. Other house specialties include sizzling fajitas, authentic chicken mole, posole and shrimp cocktail.
As the road work on Douglas Avenue continues, Mi Jacalito customers may park in the lot just south of the restaurant or in the American Legion parking lot at 1234 Douglas Avenue. The new hours for the restaurant will be Monday through Thursday from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM and Friday and Saturday from 8:00 AM until 11:00 PM. On Sundays, the restaurant will be open from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM.
